Open the settings

Stock is set per order type: a marketplace selling products and services can count stock for one and not the other.

In the menu, under Configuration, click Settings, then Order types, in the Sales & catalog group. Open the order type, then click the Quantity tab. The settings below are in its Stock management card, each set to Yes or No.

Let sellers enter a quantity

Set Suppliers can define an available quantity per listing to Yes. A quantity field appears on the form of each listing of this order type.

Buyers then cannot order more than the quantity left. The quantity is checked again each time the buyer opens their cart: if the listing has sold out in the meantime, or has fewer left than the buyer asked for, the whole item is removed from the cart, with the message “Some unavailable items were removed from your cart.”

Keep the quantity up to date

Two settings make the marketplace count for the seller:

  • Automatically decrease the quantity of available quantity when an order is placed: the ordered quantity is taken off the listing, and off the variant, as soon as the buyer completes their order.
  • Restock the quantity of available quantity when an order is canceled: the quantity comes back when the order is declined by the seller, or cancelled before it ships.
A listing with 5 in stock, both settings on — example
  1. 1A buyer orders 23 left
  2. 2The seller declines the order, or it is cancelled before shipping5 left
  3. 3The order is cancelled after shippingUnchanged

With both settings on No, the quantity only changes when the seller edits the listing.

Hide listings that are out of stock

Set Hide listings that are out of stock to Yes. When a listing’s quantity reaches 0, it leaves search results and category pages. It comes back as soon as its quantity goes above 0 again: a cancelled order, or the seller restocking it.

Let buyers choose a quantity

These settings are in the Quantity card, on the same tab:

  • Customers can choose a quantity when ordering adds a quantity selector to the listing page.
  • Choose quantity label is the text above that selector: a number of items, seats, guests, nights or sessions, depending on what you sell.
  • Enable minimum quantity of order lets sellers require a minimum per order: see the article on minimum quantities.

What your users see

Sellers enter a quantity on each listing and see it go down with each order. Buyers see the quantity selector when it is on, cannot order more than what is left, and stop finding a listing in search when it is out of stock and hidden.

Edge cases and limits

  • An order cancelled after shipping keeps its quantity out: the item has left. The seller corrects the listing if it comes back.
  • A change of setting applies to the next orders: quantities already taken off or not are left as they are.
  • The quantity left can go below 0 when the seller lowers it while orders are being placed: the seller corrects it on the listing.
